TxLAF Scholarships
The Texas Library and Archives Foundation is pleased to announce the Martha Wong Scholarship and the Mark Smith–Gloria Meraz Scholarship. Through these awards, we encourage Texans to pursue a degree from a Texas library/information science graduate program or school librarian certification program. These scholarships have been generously funded by Dr. Martha Wong, Chair of the Texas State Library and Archives Commission.
The two awards, each a $2,000 grant, must be used to help support an individual with costs associated in attaining a degree from a library/information science program or school library certification program. Monies may be used for tuition or required textbooks.
Scholarship guidelines are below. Applications must be submitted to the Foundation via Submittable by12:00 midnight (Central) on September 15, 2025. Applicants will be notified by October 15, 2025. Questions may be addressed totxlafinfo@tsl.texas.gov.
Martha Scholarship and Smith–Meraz Scholarship Guidelines
Introduction The Texas Library and Archives Foundation provides two grant programs to encourage Texans to pursue a degree from a Texas library/information science graduate program or school library certification program. Applicants should have the intention of pursuing a professional library position in Texas after obtaining their degree.
Objective The Wong and Smith–Meraz Scholarships are grants to support individuals with the costs associated in pursuing the degree or certification listed above. Each scholarship will be awarded to one recipient for 2026.
Monies may be used for tuition or required textbooks.
The maximum grant amount is $2,000 for the January 2026 semester.
Timeline Application deadline = 12:00 midnight (Central) September 15, 2025.
Applicants will be notified October 15, 2025.
The five members of the Wong Scholarship Committee, which includes the Texas State Library and Archives Commission Director and Librarian (or her designated representative), will determine the recipient.
